KAFEDRA TARIXI
In 1931, on the basis of the Department of Internal Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine of Uzbekistan State University, G.S. Kuznetsov began teaching radiology for the first time, and in 1937 he organized a course of radiology within that department.
During the years of the Great Patriotic War, Professor M.I. Nemenov and radiologist I.M. Akimov, evacuated to Samarkand from the Leningrad Military Medical Academy, worked and taught on the course (1942-1946).
In 1949-1950, the radiology and radiology course was headed by Associate Professor D.M. Abdurasulov.
In 1955, the course was transformed into a department. The department's first head and organizer was Associate Professor G.S. Kuznetsov, who led it until 1966. During this time, assistants N.F. Dokuchaeva, S.B. Ablakulova and I.G. Priev successfully defended their candidate dissertations in 1957, 1961 and 1965 respectively.
In 1962, on the basis of the department, a Department of Radionuclide Diagnosis and Radiotherapy was established at the clinic of Samarkand State Medical Institute, where high-technology methods of radiation therapy and radionuclide imaging for oncological and non-oncological diseases were implemented.
In 1966-1973, the department was headed by Professor A.I. Nesis. In 1967, the department was transferred to the base of the Samarkand Regional Oncology Dispensary, where practical and advisory assistance in radiation diagnosis and radiotherapy was provided until 1970. During these years, candidate dissertations were defended by department assistant T.M. Mamadjanov (1968), and doctoral dissertations by A.I. Nesis (1970) and N.F. Dokuchaeva (1972). Department staff worked on the X-ray diagnosis of various internal diseases and combined radiation injuries.
In 1973-1975, the department was headed by Professor N.F. Dokuchaeva. During these years, the main focus of research was on studying combined radiation injuries. In this field, assistant V.I. Artamanov defended his candidate dissertation in 1972.
In 1975-1990, the department was headed by Associate Professor S.B. Ablakulova. In 1977, an X-ray Diagnosis course of the Faculty of Advanced Training for Physicians was established at the department. The duties of course head were carried out by Associate Professor A.A. Ashurov. Radiologists and ultrasound physicians were also trained through postgraduate study, including Ya.A. Akhmedov and Ph.D. U.Kh. Rustamov.
Candidate dissertations were defended by assistant A.A. Aslanov (1975) and assistant A.A. Akhrorov (1980). From 1979 to 1985, with the practical and methodical assistance of the department, a department of radiotherapy for non-oncological diseases operated at Clinic No. 1 of the Samarkand Medical Institute. In 1985, the Department of Radionuclide Diagnosis was established as an independent unit. During this period, radiology and medical radiology were taught by Ph.D. I.G. Priev, candidates of science A.A. Aslanov, A.A. Akhrorov and V.I. Artamonov, and A.A. Ashurov.
In 1990-2006, the department was headed by Professor T.M. Mamadjanov. Under him, in 1992 the department's name was changed to "Radiodiagnosis and Radiotherapy", and in 2005 it was transferred to the status of a course under the faculty's Department of Pediatric Surgery.
T.M. Mamadjanov is the author of 157 scientific works, 1 textbook and 12 study guides. Under his supervision, 2 candidate dissertations were prepared. He was a member of the special Scientific Council on Oncology and Clinical Radiology of the Republican Oncology Research Center for the defense of dissertations awarded the title "Excellent Worker of Public Health". Over the last 10-15 years, he has continued to work actively in this capacity. Various new technologies, such as test-based control of knowledge, were introduced into the teaching process. In 2005, an electronic visualization of the control program for "Radiodiagnosis", prepared by T.M. Mamadjanov, successfully passed state certification.
Under the leadership of T.M. Mamadjanov, the department carried out research on studying the morphofunctional state of the hepatobiliary system using radionuclide methods, and on radiological changes in fungal infection — pesilomycosis and others. Together with other departments, staff conducted research on osteoplastic and fibroplastic processes in various skeletal diseases using radionuclide diagnostic methods. Department assistant Ya.A. Akhmedov, in 1997, defended his candidate dissertation under the supervision of Professor T.M. Mamadjanov. In 1995-2005, at the department, a doctoral dissertation was defended by T.A. Bobomurodov, associate professor of the Faculty Pediatrics Department; candidate dissertations were defended by M.O. Melieva, assistant of the Faculty Pediatrics Department, A.E. Amonov, assistant of the Hospital Pediatric Surgery Department, D.M. Jumaniyozov, assistant of the Traumatology and Orthopedics Department, E.Yu. Kurbonov, assistant of the Faculty Surgery Department, and I.S. Khoshimov, radiologist of the Navoi branch of the RSRCSP.
In September 2006, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor A.A. Ashurov was elected by the Institute's Scientific Council as head of the Radiodiagnosis course. In teaching the fundamentals of radiodiagnosis and radiotherapy to students of the Pediatrics Faculty, the General Medicine Faculty and the Medical Pedagogy Faculty, qualified specialists worked alongside course head A.A. Ashurov, including Associate Professor Ya.A. Akhmedov, G.M. Mardieva, and assistants E.O. Davronov and D.A. Fayzieva. Course staff also taught advanced-training classes for radiologists.
From 2006 to 2014, the course was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Ashurov Abdusalom Ashurovich. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of SamMI (1972), where he studied in clinical residency at the Department of Radiology and Medical Radiology. He has worked as a department assistant since 1981. In 1993, he defended his candidate dissertation on «Изучение возможности биоиндикации лучевых поражений на основе определения количественных изменений элементного состава крови с помощью ядерно-физических методов анализа». He defended his candidate dissertation on this topic». In 1997, he was elected to the position of associate professor of the department. In 1997-2005, he headed the Radiodiagnosis course of the Faculty of Advanced Training for Physicians. "«Лучевая диагностика морфофункциональных изменений в легких при пециломикозе в условиях дефицит йода».”. He defended his doctoral (DSc) dissertation on this topic. He is the author of 1 monograph, more than 130 scientific articles, 2 innovation proposals and 4 study guides. Highest-category clinical radiologist.
Mardiyeva Gulshod Mamatmuradovna, associate professor, headed the “Radiodiagnosis and Therapy” course from 2014 to 2022. Under the leadership of G.M. Mardiyeva, the course attained the status of a department.
Mansurov Djalolidin Shamsidinovich, Candidate of Medical Sciences, has been head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis and Therapy since 2022. He was born on 29.01.1990 in the city of Samarkand. His nationality is Uzbek.
The SamSMU DKTF Medical Radiology course was newly established on the basis of Order No. 353-Y of the Rector of SamSMU, dated 02.05.2015.
In 2015-2016, the first head of the course was Ph.D. Normurodova Nodira Murodullayevna.
In 2016-2020, Akhmedov Yakub Amandullayevich.
Since 25.08.2020, Khamidov Obid Abdurakhmonovich has been head of the department. He was born in 1985 in the Samara region of the Russian Federation. His nationality is Uzbek.
In 2008, he graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine of the Samarkand Medical Institute. From 2011 to 2014, he completed his master's degree in the specialty of Medical Radiology at SamSMU.
In 2021, he defended his PhD dissertation on "Ultrasound Diagnosis of Internal Structural Injuries and Complications of the Knee Joint".
In 2025, he defended his DSc dissertation on "Improving the Medical Radiology Service through the Introduction of Innovative Diagnostic Methods in Rehabilitation Centers".
Based on Order No. 386 of the Rector of SamSMU, dated 26.02.2021, the status of "department" was granted.
At present, the department has 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 3 candidates of science and 8 assistants on its staff. In addition, on the basis of the department, "Medical Radiology" specialty is training 5 core doctoral candidates, 4 master's degree residents and 58 clinical residents.
MA’NAVIY-MA’RIFIY ISHLAR
During the reporting year, department staff regularly take part in the meetings on matters of spirituality and enlightenment held every Tuesday by the institute.
Together with the cadets, department staff hold, every Thursday within the department itself, hours of spirituality and enlightenment under the leadership of Z.N. Nurmurzaev.
This work is aimed at organizing various events for the implementation of the Decrees and Resolutions, Decrees and Orders of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the orders of the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and of the Rector of Samarkand State Medical University, together with the celebration of various holidays and anniversaries.
- The purpose of activity in the sphere of spiritual and educational work is:
- to help form and develop an independent worldview based on the synthesis of our ancestors' great historical heritage and modern thinking;
- to bring up true patriots of their homeland;
- to shape highly qualified specialists who value such qualities as humanity, compassion, purity and honesty, and who treat parents and members of the older generation with care and respect.
- to fight against religious extremism, dogmatism and international terrorism;
- to foster a sense of interethnic harmony and religious tolerance;
- to instill love for one's native land, devotion to one's country and pride in one's homeland;
- to shape political culture and legal awareness;
- to create conditions for comprehensive intellectual development;

- to promote a healthy lifestyle, physically strengthen young people, and create the conditions they need to display their sporting abilities;
- to increase young people's interest in music, drawing, literature, theater and other forms of art;
- to organize students' effective use of computer technology and the internet;
- to work together with the information resource center of Samarkand State Medical University in order to widely promote the reading of books.
- to actively take part in the "Referendum and Youth" awareness-raising events held at Samarkand State Medical University and across Uzbekistan.
- Spiritual and educational work is carried out on the basis of an approved plan, under which various events are held dedicated to historic dates, national holidays, sports competitions and other occasions. Various meetings are also held together with internal affairs bodies, law-enforcement agencies, spirituality centers and other partner organizations.
At the Department of Medical Radiology of the DKTF, the moral upbringing of young people is carried out in accordance with the plan of work for spiritual and educational activities. During the 2025 academic year, "Information and Mentoring Hours" have been consistently held at a high level for the study groups, as shown in the class schedule. In preparing for and marking the 31st anniversary of state independence at a high level, round-table discussions were held for trainees and department staff on the topics above, covering the achievements of the new Uzbekistan since gaining independence, healthcare, upbringing and education, the conditions being created for young people to gain knowledge, and new opportunities and changes in other fields.
Spiritual and Educational Work
Department staff took an active part in the university-wide spiritual events and awareness campaign dedicated to the 32nd
anniversary of the State Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held across the university, together with promotional activities.
During the reporting year, department staff regularly take part in the meetings on matters of spirituality and enlightenment held every Tuesday by the University.
Together with the cadets, department staff hold, every Thursday within the department itself, hours of spirituality and enlightenment under the leadership of Z.N. Nurmurzaev.
During these hours of spirituality, discussions are held on the domestic and foreign policy of our Republic, the international situation and our history.

DEPARTMENT'S EDUCATIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES
At the Department of Medical Radiology of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education (DKTF), the training of highly qualified specialists is carried out through clinical residency and master's degree programs, as well as advanced-training tracks for practicing physicians. On the basis of the department, physician-trainees from various regions of the Republic regularly upgrade their knowledge and skills in fields such as X-ray diagnostics, ultrasound diagnostics, MRI and MSCT.
The department has 1 office for the head of department, 6 offices for assistants, as well as 1 central lecture hall designed for 50 seats and more than 10 training and practice rooms, including modern, well-equipped diagnostic simulation rooms. During practical classes, wide use is made of the department's 128-slice GE Revolution Evo MSCT scanner, the 1.5-Tesla Signa Explorer MRI scanner, and modern ultrasound and digital radiography equipment.

The teaching process for each field and track is carried out on the basis of the following approved documents:
- Qualification characteristics;
- State standard;
- Curriculum and working curriculum;
- Amendments introduced in accordance with the relevant orders of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
- Approved diagnosis and treatment standards;
- International recommendations and modern diagnostic algorithms;
- Modern educational technologies (graphic organizers, case technology, situational tasks and tests).
Technical support and modern educational technologies
The teaching process makes full use of slides, available training films, tables, video clips, lecture presentations and disease-detection algorithms. The department's technical base includes modern work computers, all-in-one PCs, television sets, and one modern interactive panel, connected to the central computer, through which subject-related video films and multimedia programs are shown on the television sets.
In order to further consolidate the knowledge of cadets and clinical residents, a special simulation room has been set up in the department. Regular classes are conducted online through the module system, while during practical classes wide use is made of patients who have come to the clinic — direct viewing of relevant patients in the ultrasound and X-ray diagnostic rooms is organized for students and physician-trainees.
Clinical residency and master's degree track
In the 2025 academic year, 25 clinical residents completed the 1st year and 32 completed the 2nd year, and a further 27 new residents were admitted to the department. In the first half of the 2026 academic year, 26 clinical residents graduated from the 1st year, and 23 are on the verge of completing the 2nd year. Every year, 3–4 specialists successfully complete the master's degree track. At present, a total of nearly 50 clinical residents are studying at the department.

The department's library holds educational literature in English, Uzbek and Russian, including textbooks, atlases, study guides and educational-methodical manuals. In addition, a unified bank of scanned images covering all sections of the curriculum has been created, further contributing to the effective organization of a unified teaching process.

The information presented above shows that the teaching and educational-methodical work of the DKTF Department of Medical Radiology is organized to a high standard, based on approved regulatory documents, a modern technical base, and the expertise of qualified faculty. Advanced-training and re-specialization tracks in all fields are carried out on a regular and sustainable basis in line with the program.
ILMIY-TADQIQOT ISHLARI
The research work of the DKTF Department of Medical Radiology is being carried out on improving modern methods of radiation diagnostics in the fields of ultrasound, X-ray, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, introducing diapeutic and X-ray-surgical methods into clinical practice, treating complicated forms of cholelithiasis, and improving the medical radiology service in the field of neuroimaging and rehabilitation. In recent years, department staff have also expanded their research into the radiological diagnosis of echinococcosis, mechanical jaundice and brain tumors.
All staff of the department actively participate in the department's and the university's research work. At present 5 staff members (F.U. Umarov, Z.N. Nurmurzayev, Z.Z. Umarkulov, Z.X. Ravshanov and D.J. Yaqubov) are working as independent researchers toward obtaining an academic degree. Over the past two years, 8 staff members of the department have successfully defended their theses — of these, 7 received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and 1 received the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc). As a result, the department's research capacity rose to 70% in 2025 and to 78% in 2026.
Over the past 3 years (2024–2026), department staff have published more than 300 scientific works, including 1 textbook, 5 monographs, more than 9 study guides, educational-methodical manuals and recommendations, as well as more than 290 articles and abstracts in national and foreign journals and in the proceedings of international conferences. A significant proportion of the articles have been published in foreign (English-language) publications, which testifies to the department's expanding international scientific ties.

Distribution of research work by field
The greater part of the scientific work published by department staff covers the following fields: the role of diapeutic and X-ray-surgical methods in complicated forms of cholelithiasis; treatment of hepatic echinococcosis using minimally invasive endovideosurgical and navigation-puncture methods; comprehensive diagnosis of mechanical jaundice using MSCT, MRI and ultrasound; ultrasound and MRI diagnosis of the knee, wrist and other joints, including in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis; MRI semiotics of brain tumors and Parkinson's disease; study of the immunohistochemical and morphometric characteristics of newborns; ultrasound morphology of uterine diseases; and the application of artificial-intelligence technologies to radiological diagnosis.
Department staff publish their research results not only in national journals but also in authoritative international publications — including foreign journals such as the American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences, World of Medicine: Journal of Biomedical Sciences, and the Journal the Coryphaeus of Science. In addition, department staff have obtained a State Certificate (No. DGU 49562, dated 03.04.2025) for an invention in the form of a computer program, which testifies to the growing applied and innovative activity of the department.INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF THE DKTF DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL RADIOLOGY
Staff of the Department of Medical Radiology regularly improve their qualifications by liaising with foreign colleagues and taking part in international conferences and forums. During 2025, department staff delivered more than 12 presentations at local and international scientific-practical conferences, and also published 126 articles in foreign scientific publications, including 6 articles in journals indexed in the Scopus database. The geography of the department's cooperation covers countries such as Uzbekistan, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, and continues to expand year by year.

Department staff took part in this prestigious event alongside foreign scientists and specialists, familiarizing themselves with the latest developments in modern radiology and establishing contacts with representatives of the international scientific community.

The department's leadership held practical negotiations with the leadership and specialists of Smolensk State Medical University in Smolensk, Russian Federation, during which areas of cooperation were discussed. Assistants and residents of the DKTF Department of Medical Radiology underwent practical training under an academic mobility program at the Department of Oncology, Radiation Diagnosis and Radiation Therapy of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University in the Republic of Kazakhstan. During this program, department staff became closely acquainted with the teaching-methodical experience, modern diagnostic and treatment methods of the foreign higher-education institution, and also exchanged experience with their foreign colleagues.
