The 2nd meeting of the Academic Council for the 2026/2027 academic year was held at Samarkand State Medical University. Chaired by the Rector of the university, Professor Jasur Rizaev, the session was attended by vice-rectors, faculty deans, department heads, academic faculty, and council members.

The meeting commenced with the reading of the congratulatory address by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the occasion of October 1 – Teachers and Mentors Day. Subsequently, the Head of State’s vision regarding education sector reforms, recent accomplishments, and upcoming priority tasks was presented to the university staff.

Critical Changes Anticipated in Medical Education

The meeting thoroughly deliberated on the stringent standards set by the President for university rectors and the new objectives aimed at enhancing education quality:

  • Need for modern textbooks: A priority directive was issued to expedite the development of cutting-edge educational literature in collaboration with international partners for rapidly evolving fields such as transplantology, robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and bioengineering.
  • Practice-oriented research: It was established that graduation theses and dissertations must directly target solutions for practical challenges across various sectors of the economy.
  • Supervisory council reforms: It was emphasized that approximately 70 percent of public university supervisory board members should comprise representatives from the private sector and foreign higher education institutions, with academic curricula undergoing comprehensive revisions to align with labor market demands.

In honor of the holiday, letters of appreciation were presented to dedicated educators who have made significant contributions to the university's development, as well as to faculty members celebrating milestone anniversaries. Additionally, diplomas of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Science (DSc) were formally conferred upon researchers who successfully defended their doctoral dissertations.
