INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP HELD ON MODERN DIAGNOSTICS AND IN VITRO CULTIVATION OF LEISHMANIASIS
On September 21–24, 2026, a 4-day international training workshop dedicated to advanced diagnostics, laboratory investigations, and in vitro cultivation of leishmaniasis was held in Samarkand.
The event was jointly organized by OIC–COMSTECH, Samarkand State Medical University, the L. M. Isaev Research Institute of Microbiology, Virology, Infectious and Parasitic Diseases under SamSMU, and the Neglected Tropical Diseases Global Network.
Throughout the workshop, participants enriched their theoretical foundations and hands-on skills in leishmaniasis epidemiology, clinical and differential diagnosis, modern microscopic and molecular diagnostic techniques, isolation and cultivation of Leishmania spp., in vitro propagation and cryopreservation, biosafety standards, and drug susceptibility testing.
The program commenced with a plenary conference gathering over 200 attendees. Delivering opening addresses, the Rector of SamSMU, Professor Jasur Rizaev, the Head of the Samarkand Regional Health Department, Suxrob Zayniev, and other distinguished guests highlighted the pivotal significance of the conference for healthcare development and international knowledge exchange. The plenary session was followed by scientific presentations detailing the epidemiology, prevention, advanced therapeutics, and diagnostic modalities of leishmaniasis.
The subsequent days featured hands-on workshops for specialists, focusing primarily on state-of-the-art laboratory methodologies. Additionally, participants conducted a field visit to the Urgut district to examine local epidemiological dynamics and field observations related to leishmaniasis.
The active participation of prominent scientists and leading experts from numerous foreign nations significantly elevated the international scientific profile of the event.
This international workshop served not only as a platform for exchanging cutting-edge knowledge and practical competencies, but also as an essential catalyst for fostering scientific collaboration among young researchers and specialists worldwide, laying a strong foundation for joint research initiatives and international projects.
