History of the department

  In 1973, an oncology course was established at the Samarkand Oncology Dispensary within the Department of Hospital Surgery of the Samarkand State Medical Institute. Associate Professor Tolib Musaevich Musayev, PhD, was appointed head of the course. Also hired as assistants were PhD Khasanov Sh.R., PhD Khutiev Ts.S., and PhD Krasnaya M.G., and in 1975, assistant I.R. Minnullin. 

  Since 1976, due to the increase in the teaching load, the Department of Oncology was organized and the following employees were hired as specialists: PhD Ravshanov TR, PhD Khoshimov UO, Minulin IR, M.G. Krasnaya, Sh.R. Khasanov, Ts.S. Khutiev and others.

  In 1991, Professor Shavkat Rizaevich Khasanov was appointed head of the department through a competitive selection process. During his tenure, one doctoral dissertation and four candidate dissertations were defended at the department.

  Since 2017, the department was headed by Associate Professor M.M. Abdukhalilov, PhD. From 2021-2022, the department was headed by Professor M.D. Dzhuraev, and from 2022-2023, the department was headed by Associate Professor N.M. Rakhimov, Doctor of Medical Sciences. From February to September 2023, the department was headed by PhD Kh.U. Ortikova.

  Since September 2023, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences (DSc), Associate Professor Firdavs Gayratovich Ulmasov.

  In 2025, Ulmasov F.G. defended his doctoral dissertation (DSc) and is the author of 100 scientific articles and theses, 1 monograph, 1 textbook.

  Currently, the faculty of the Department of Oncology is represented by the following specialists:

  Minnullin I.R., PhD, associate professor, department chair, has been teaching and researching since 1975. In 1989, he defended his PhD dissertation on "Treatment of benign bone tumors with ashed xenograft."

  Karimova M.N., PhD, associate professor of the department. In 1992, she defended her dissertation on "Blastomogenesis Processes in Internal Organs with Long-Term Use of the Nasal Surgery."

  Shakhanova Sh.Sh., PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor. In 2022, she defended her dissertation on "Improving the Tactics of Combined Treatment of Multiple Osteogenic Metastases from Malignant Tumors of the Genitourinary Tract."

  A.F. Asatulaev, PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Head of Academic Affairs. In 2023, he defended his PhD dissertation on "Improving the Diagnosis and Treatment of Ovarian Cystic and Tumor-Like Formations in Adolescents."

  The scientific direction of the department: Development of theoretical foundations of carcinogenesis, patterns of tumor development, the causes of its occurrence, aspects of prevalence and impact of etiological factors, clinical manifestations and characteristics of the course of oncological diseases to improve screening programs, diagnostic methods, treatment, rehabilitation, prevention and metaphylaxis of malignant neoplasms.

  In recent years, the department's staff has published more than 100 scientific papers, including 70 articles, most of which are in VAK-refereed journals, Scopus, including 5 textbooks, 15 teaching aids, 18 teaching aids, 12 monographs, one doctoral dissertation and more than ten candidate dissertations have been defended.
