A scientific-practical seminar and master class with the participation of specialists from Kazakhstan were held at the Specialized Scientific and Practical Center for Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation affiliated with SamSMU

On October 14-16, events marking Kazakhstan Medicine Days in Uzbekistan were held in our country, particularly in the city of Samarkand. As part of these events, a scientific and practical seminar and master class on "Minimally Invasive Surgery" took place at the Specialized Scientific and Practical Center for Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation of SamSMU. The seminar was led by Aleynikov Viktor Grigorievich, head of the Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery Department at the National Center of Neurosurgery in Astana, Kazakhstan, and a leading specialist in spinal and spinal cord diseases, along with Aydarov Seitzhan Ayezkhanovich, a doctor from the Vascular and Functional Neurosurgery Department of the same center.

During the seminar program, Aleynikov Viktor Grigorievich first spoke about the development of neurosurgery in Kazakhstan, while Professor Mamadaliev Abdurakhman Mamatkulovich, Doctor of Medical Sciences from the SamSMU Neurosurgery Department, provided information on the history and achievements of neurosurgery in Uzbekistan. In the main part of the seminar, V.G. Aleynikov presented a scientific report on "Minimally Invasive Surgery" to the participants. This report showcased minimally invasive operations performed at the National Center for Neurosurgery in Astana, Kazakhstan, and their outcomes. The information presented generated significant interest among the attendees. Subsequently, Professor Mamadaliev Abdurakhman Mamatkulovich gave a presentation on "Spinal Neurosurgery," and the Department Head, PhD Aliyev Mansur Abdukhalikovich, presented on "Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery in Samarkand." These reports highlighted the achievements of our Center and neurosurgery in Samarkand, including the minimally invasive operations performed and their results. The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session for each presentation. It can be said that the seminar was highly beneficial for doctors from both countries and played a crucial role in the exchange of experience. About 60 doctors, clinical residents, and master's students participated in the seminar.

Following the seminar, doctors from Kazakhstan conducted medical examinations of 24 patients. During these examinations, 13 patients with Parkinson's disease and 11 patients with spinal cord and spinal pathologies were evaluated, and necessary recommendations were provided.

Subsequently, a master class was held as part of the Kazakhstan Medicine Days in Uzbekistan. With the participation of Aleynikov Viktor Grigorievich and doctors from our Center, a microdiscectomy for an L4-L5 intervertebral disc herniation was performed on a patient diagnosed with this condition. This type of operation is considered a minimally invasive surgical method and is performed using a special tubular retractor and neurosurgical microscope. It is worth noting that such operations have been performed at the Specialized Scientific and Practical Center of Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation of SamSMU since 2022, with approximately 500 operations completed to date. This master class marked the first operation performed collaboratively by doctors from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and was successfully completed. After the operation, the neurological pain observed in the patient completely disappeared, and no deficiencies (complications) were observed.

Following this surgical procedure, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Specialized Scientific and Practical Center of Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation and the National Center of Neurosurgery in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, focusing on personnel training and collaboration.
