HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
Since 1933 and 1940, pedagogical activity and research work developed in accordance with the general plans of the institute. The first professor and head of the department of nervous diseases was I.Ya. Churaev, a former associate professor of the Kazan Institute for Advanced MedicalStudies, who headed the department from 25.12.1933. on 03/12/1942.

In June 2021, the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery was divided into two independent departments: "Neurology" and "Neurosurgery". The head of the Department of Neurology is currently Professor A. T. Dzhurabekova.
The department is located on the basis of the neurological and pediatric neurological department 1-SamMI Clinic.
The number of classrooms is 10, the lecture hall is 1, equipped with furniture, computers, and Wi-Fi. The bed fund is 85 beds (40-in the department of neurology, 45-in the department of pediatric neurology).
Teaching is conducted for students of medical, pediatric, medical-pedagogical, dental faculties, Faculty of medical prevention, nurses of the highest qualification and foreign students in Uzbek, Russian and English.
Since 2006, the department has opened a master's degree program for training residents in neurology, since 2009 in pediatric neurology. One of the master's theses received the Republican Prize. For many years, training has been conducted with clinical residents.
The department has trained 24 candidates of medical sciences (including 4 PhD), 9 doctors of medical sciences. In total, over the years of its existence, more than 1000 scientific articles, 14 monographs, 4 brochures, 14 textbooks, 40 methodological recommendations, 1 textbook in Uzbek and 1 textbook (co-authored) in Russian for students of medical universities have been published. There is a work that was awarded the prize of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
The staff of the department carry out a lot of educational and methodological work. In 2020, a platform for distance learning of students in Uzbek (Latin alphabet), Russian and English (for foreign students) was created. Video lectures on all topics have been prepared. The department constantly works with gifted students, the results of which are reflected in reports and abstracts of national and international conferences, where students receive diplomas every year. Students also participate in Republican Olympiads and take places of honor.

MEDICAL WORK.
The department is located on the bases of the neurological department and the children's neurological department 1-SamMI Clinic, where the staff of the department conduct patients.
The head of the department, Professor A. T. Dzhurabekova, examines patients every Thursday in the Department of Neurology, and every Friday in the Department of Pediatric Neurology. Professor Abdullayeva N. N. conducts examinations in the Department of Neurology. In addition, Professor A. T. Dzhurabekova and the staff of the department consult patients of other departments of the 1-Clinic of SamMI, participate in consultations, consult difficult and complex patients of other medical institutions.
