On May 29, the Rector of the University of Pisa (Italy) Riccardo Zucchi visited Samarkand State Medical University. During the visit, the distinguished guest got acquainted with Samarkand State Medical University and the conditions created there, learned about the system and the process of organizing education.
In recent years, several cooperation projects have been implemented between the University of Pisa and Samarkand State Medical University. In particular, academic mobility of students and teachers, as well as scientific and practical academic projects are being implemented within the framework of the Erasmus+ grant from the European Union. In connection with this visit, an extraordinary meeting of the Academic Council of the Samarkand State Medical University was held, at which Riccardo Zucchi, Rector of the University of Pisa, was awarded the title “Honorary Professor of Samarkand State Medical University". In his speech, Professor Riccardo Zucchi noted that he has high hopes for the prospect of cooperation between the two top luminaries.
A memorandum of cooperation between Samarkand State Medical University and the University of Pisa in Italy was also signed at an extraordinary meeting of the Academic Council. According to the memorandum, a joint educational program at the master's degree level will be launched from the 2025-2026 academic year. Graduates of the two-year educational program will receive a diploma from both SamSMU and the University of Pisa by studying at the first stage at Samarkand State Medical University (1 year), at the second stage at the University of Pisa (1 year and 3 months). It is worth noting that the 1st degree Master's degree from the University of Pisa will allow for medical practice in the countries of the European Union.
During the meeting, the parties also agreed to establish an academic exchange of students and teachers and further strengthen scientific cooperation.
