SamSMU Rector Addresses SCO Member States Forum on traditional folk medicine

  As part of Uzbekistan's presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), an SCO forum on traditional medicine titled "Integration of traditional folk medicine into modern healthcare systems" is taking place in Tashkent on June 7. The event is attended by ministers of healthcare of the SCO member states, representatives of academic circles, leading specialists in the field of modern and traditional (folk) medicine, rehabilitation therapy, pharmaceutics and experimental medicine.

  The representative SCO Traditional Medicine Forum was opened with introductory remarks by Bekhzod Musaev, Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In his speech, Mr. Musaev gave a detailed evaluation of the significance of traditional medicine for modern healthcare systems, international experience in its development under the WHO programmes, and mentioned the efforts made by the government of Uzbekistan to develop traditional medicine in the republic. The speakers and other high-ranking guests also spoke of the importance of traditional traditional medicine in modern healthcare and the significance of international discussions on its development.

  According to the Forum's agenda, Samarkand State Medical University Rector Professor Jasur Rizaev was the first speaker. In his informative report on traditional medicine and its integration in modern healthcare and medical education Jasur Rizaev gave a detailed description of historical evolution of traditional medicine and its current state, the role of great scientists of the Orient, primarily Ibn Sina (Avicenna), in the development of traditional medicine, urgency of integrative medicine that would combine positive experience of traditional and modern scientific medicine, development and implementation of "traditional medicine" fields in educational and scientific courses. The report was highly appreciated by the organisers and participants of the SCO Forum.

  The Fifth Meeting of SCO Health Ministers will also be held in Tashkent on 8 June.
