International Cooperation Relations
The international activities of Samarkand State Medical University are based on the University Development Concept, which aims to strengthen its position in the global education community. The main priorities of internationalization include increasing the number of international students, developing joint projects with foreign higher education institutions and research centres, increasing the number of researchers and faculty members teaching at foreign educational institutions, and expanding joint and dual-degree programmes with international universities.
Samarkand State Medical University maintains partnerships with more than 60 national and international organizations, foreign universities, and research centres. Cooperation in education and science is based on the principle of equality. Partnerships with universities in Europe, Asia, North America, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) are being developed through joint programmes and academic mobility.
Every year, an increasing number of highly qualified international specialists, faculty members, students, and researchers visit Samarkand State Medical University to establish and strengthen partnerships, study, undertake professional development, and participate in scientific conferences.
The department staff organize online seminars and webinars.
The department staff actively participate in scientific and practical conferences organized by Samarkand State Medical University, as well as in national and international scientific forums, conferences, congresses, and symposiums. They present the results of their research and exchange professional experience with national and international specialists.
In September 2024, the Head of the Department, N.N. Shavazi, participated in an international scientific forum held at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Türkiye, where she delivered a scientific presentation on current issues related to preterm birth. The Rector of Samarkand State Medical University, Professor Jasur Alimjanovich Rizaev, also participated in the forum.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the clinical facilities of Yeditepe University, including its obstetric hospital, where professional experience was exchanged with leading professors and specialists of the university. These meetings contributed to the development of international scientific cooperation, the exchange of modern clinical approaches, and the implementation of advanced international practices in the department’s educational, research, and clinical activities.
In April 2025, the Head of the Department and Assistant F.N. Atayeva participated in a conference held at Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku. As part of the visit, they toured the university’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, where they exchanged professional experience with its leading professors and specialists.
Based on Invitation No. 3-28-20/2-2087/2026, dated April 29, 2026, issued by Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, a delegation from Samarkand State Medical University was sent on an official visit to Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku from May 4 to 9, 2026.
The delegation consisted of: N.N. Shavazi — Doctor of Medical Sciences (DSc), Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 3; F.N. Atayeva — Assistant of the Department; K.F. Rayimjanova — second-year master’s resident; F.O. Olimjonova — first-year master’s resident. The delegation of Samarkand State Medical University participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference entitled “Healthcare and Technology Summit.”
The delegation of Samarkand State Medical University delivered presentations at the conference in the sections of obstetrics and gynecology, dermatovenereology, and surgery.
As part of scientific and academic cooperation, a meeting was held on May 6 between E.M. Aliyeva, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Azerbaijan Medical University, and Nargiz Nuraliyevna Shavazi, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 3 at Samarkand State Medical University.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the further development of cooperation between the two universities, particularly between their respective specialized departments.
As part of the academic mobility programme and in accordance with the approved thematic plan, Nargiz Nuraliyevna Shavazi delivered five lectures to sixth-year students of the Faculty of Medicine on the following topics:Obstetric Emergencies; Preterm Birth; Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy; Haemorrhage During Pregnancy and Childbirth; Postpartum Haemorrhage.
The parties discussed opportunities for the further development of cooperation between the departments. The delegation members familiarized themselves with the organization and activities of the department. They also participated in patient consultations together with the department staff.
A guided tour of the “Medical Campus” was also organized. The delegation familiarized itself with the structure of the university library and the educational literature used in the teaching process.
A cooperation agreement was developed covering the following areas: improvement of educational programmes; joint scientific research and publication of scientific articles; exchange of experience in medical education and science; organization of joint scientific and practical events, workshops, lectures, and seminars; participation in scientific and educational projects; delivery of joint courses and other educational programmes, including online programmes; and organization of internships, professional development courses, and other educational activities for students and faculty members.
As a result of this international academic mobility programme, it should be noted that such cooperation will contribute to training a new generation of highly qualified specialists who will introduce medical innovations in both countries and support the accelerated development of the healthcare sector.
Samarkand State Medical University annually organizes the prestigious Samarkand 2020 International Olympiad, as well as international scientific and practical conferences that bring together leading scientists, faculty members, young researchers, and healthcare professionals from national and international higher education and medical institutions.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 3 actively participates in organizing and conducting these events. Members of the department serve on organizing and programme committees, contribute to the preparation of scientific programmes, deliver presentations, conduct workshops, and chair section meetings. Through these activities, they make a significant contribution to the development of international scientific cooperation, the improvement of medical education, and the exchange of advanced clinical experience.
