Educational and educational-methodological work of the department
The department provides training in Obstetrics and Gynecology for sixth-year students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of International Education. The educational process is organized using modern teaching methods aimed at developing professional competencies and improving the practical skills of future physicians.
In addition, 19 master’s residents and 28 clinical residents are enrolled in postgraduate educational programmes at the department. Their training is supervised by highly qualified faculty members and includes theoretical instruction, clinical practice, and participation in research activities.
The educational process at the clinical training base is organized in accordance with the approved timetable and begins every day at 8:00 a.m. with a morning clinical conference. During the conference, the work of the on-call medical team is reviewed. Students who participated in on-call duties present reports on the most interesting clinical cases, while patient management, examination findings, and treatment outcomes are also discussed.
Following the morning conference, students’ knowledge of previously studied topics is assessed through oral questioning and clinical case discussions. This makes it possible to evaluate their level of theoretical preparation and understanding of the course material.
The next stage involves the supervised management of patients in specialized clinical departments. Under the guidance of the department assistants, students collect patients’ complaints and medical histories and perform general, obstetric, and gynaecological examinations. Particular attention is given to acquiring and improving the practical skills specified in the educational programme.
During the academic day, students observe elective and emergency surgical procedures, become familiar with modern surgical technologies, principles of preoperative preparation, surgical techniques, and postoperative patient management. They also participate, within the limits of their competence, in the work of the operating unit under the supervision of the department assistants.
The practical session concludes with a detailed review of clinical cases, discussion of patient management outcomes, analysis of the practical skills performed, and study of a new topic in accordance with the course syllabus. The department assistants introduce students to the material for the next session, identify the main issues for independent study, and recommend current scientific literature. This ensures continuity in the learning process and contributes to the development of students’ professional knowledge.

Training is conducted in accordance with the following approved course documents:
- qualification requirements;
- the State Educational Standard;
- the curriculum;
- the course syllabus;
- educational technologies;
- amendments introduced based on Order No. 80 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan;
- international guidelines.
The department staff have developed a workbook for students and a methodological manual containing step-by-step instructions for performing and assessing the practical skills included in the curriculum.

The Following Resources Are Available During Training

The department also has its own library, which contains more than 20 titles of educational literature in English, Uzbek, and Russian.
The electronic library includes:

The department’s clinical training base provides all the necessary conditions for comprehensive practical training. Under the supervision of highly qualified faculty members and practising physicians, students acquire professional skills through direct participation in diagnostic and treatment processes.
Students have the opportunity to independently collect patients’ medical histories, perform general, obstetric, and gynaecological examinations, master the technique of bimanual examination, interpret the results of laboratory and instrumental investigations, and participate in patient management at various stages of medical care.
Particular attention is given to the development of practical competencies. Students observe surgical procedures and all stages of operations and become familiar with modern surgical technologies, the principles of asepsis and antisepsis, anaesthetic management, and postoperative patient care.
In addition, students actively participate in clinical rounds, multidisciplinary consultations, discussions of complex clinical cases, and on-call duties. These activities contribute to the development of clinical reasoning, improvement of practical skills, and training of highly qualified specialists in obstetrics and gynaecology

Student assessment at the department is conducted in two stages. The mid-course assessment is carried out orally and evaluates students’ understanding of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills covered in the completed topics.
The final assessment is also conducted orally and is aimed at comprehensively evaluating the professional competencies developed by students during the study of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
