History of the department

  The Department of Surgical Diseases No. 1 was organized in 1933 and was headed in different years by Professor A.A. Kozyrev (1933-34), Professor B.E. Pankratyev (1934-42), Associate Professor V.F. Medvedkov (1944-45), Professor A.V. Sushevsky (1946-51) and G.M. Mintz (1951-56).

F.M. Golub (1956-1974 yy.)

  Since 1956, the department has been headed by Professor F.M. Golub. Under his leadership, extensive educational and methodological work was conducted. Such research topics as combined radiation injuries were developed. Under his supervision, U.A. Aripov, A.I. Britun, N.F. Dokuchaeva, R.Yu. Amirov, and M.A. Akhmedov defended their doctoral dissertations. In 1964, he was awarded the title of Honored Scientist of the Uzbek SSR.

R.Yu. Amirov ( 1974-1987 )

  From 1974 to 1987, the department was headed by Professor R. Yu. Amirov. The department's main research focus was experimental studies of the effects of pesticides on wound healing. Issues of immunology in surgery were also explored. During these years, Associate Professors R. K. Sattarov, L. V. Marokanova, and V. N. Shishkin worked in the department.

I.R. Rustamov (1987-1997 yy.)

  Since 1988, the department has been headed by Professor I.R. Rustamov. Along with teaching and methodological work, scientific research on echinococcosis surgery was conducted. During this period, Professors M.Kh. Khodjaeva and M.A. Fakhratov also worked in the department.

B.U. Sabirov (1997-2009 yy.)

  In 1997, the departments of surgery at the faculty and hospital were merged, and Professor B. U. Sobirov was elected head of the department. The department's primary research focus became the development of minimally invasive interventions in thoracic and abdominal surgery.

  Since 2009, the Department of Surgical Diseases No. 1 and transplantology is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences , Professor Zafar Babadzhanovich Kurbaniyazov.

  Zafar Babadzhanovich Kurbanyiazov graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine at the Samarkand Medical Institute in 1979. In 1991, he defended his PhD dissertation on "Improving the Surgical Treatment of Liver Echinococcosis." In 2019, he defended his doctoral dissertation on "Surgical Treatment of Patients with Recent Injuries and Cicatricial Strictures of the Main Bile Ducts."
