
Akhmedova Muborakhon Djalilovna
(1947–2025)
Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Muborakhon Djalilovna Akhmedova was an outstanding scholar in the field of infectious diseases, an experienced educator, and a widely recognized expert not only in the Republic of Uzbekistan but also in a number of foreign countries and CIS states.
Muborakhon Djalilovna Akhmedova was born on October 15, 1947, in the city of Andijan into a family of intellectuals. In 1965, she was admitted to the Faculty of Sanitary and Hygienic Medicine of the Tashkent State Medical Institute, which she graduated from with honors in 1971.
After graduation, she began her professional career as a bacteriologist in the Department of Especially Dangerous Infections at the Tashkent Regional Sanitary and Epidemiological Station, where she thoroughly studied the causes and consequences of highly hazardous diseases. From 1973 to 1983, she worked as a junior research fellow at the Research Institute of Epidemiology, Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases. In 1982, she defended her Candidate of Medical Sciences dissertation in Moscow on anthrax.
She later served as an assistant at the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the Second Tashkent State Medical Institute. From 1991 to 2012, she headed the Department of Infectious and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Tashkent Medical Academy, while continuing her intensive scientific research. In 1994, she defended her Doctoral dissertation in Moscow on the clinical course of viral hepatitis B in pregnant women and was awarded the academic title of Professor. Subsequently, she served as Director of the Research Institute of Epidemiology, Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases and as Chairperson of the Specialized Scientific Council.
Under Professor Akhmedova’s supervision, 4 Doctoral and 34 Candidate dissertations were successfully defended; she also supervised 3 additional Doctoral dissertations. She authored 2 textbooks, 5 monographs, more than 30 educational and methodological manuals, and over 600 scientific publications.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development of infectious disease healthcare in Uzbekistan, Professor M.D. Akhmedova was awarded the “Excellent Healthcare Worker” medal. Her name was included in the book “Devoted Women of Uzbekistan.” She served for many years as Vice President of the Eurasian Society of Infectious Disease Specialists and, since 2006, as an Academician of the Russian Federation Academy of Medical and Technical Sciences. In 2022, she was honored with the V.I. Pokrovsky Medal at the Eurasian Congress.
In 2000, Muborakhon Djalilovna Akhmedova was appointed Director of the Research Institute of Epidemiology, Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Professor Akhmedova was an Honorary Professor of Irkutsk State Medical University (Russian Federation), Abu Ali ibn Sino Bukhara State Medical Institute, and Andijan State Medical Institute.
Alongside her pedagogical and scientific activities, she was an accomplished organizer, having initiated and conducted more than 40 large-scale international scientific and practical conferences addressing key issues in infectious diseases, epidemiology, and microbiology.
Professor Muborakhon Djalilovna Akhmedova was a diligent, principled, energetic, kind-hearted, and noble individual—one of the most respected representatives of Uzbekistan’s scientific community.
