The Department of Medical Biology and Genetics is almost a peer of Samarkand State Medical University, and has been working in collaboration with professors and teachers of medical departments since the 1930s and has gone through all historical periods of theuniversity's development.
The Department of Medical Biology and Genetics was established in 1930 at the Samarkand State Medical Institute. In 2017, the departments of "Medical Biology and Genetics" and "Microbiology, Virology and Immunology" under the department were separated, and the name of the department became the Department of "Medical Biologyand Genetics".
The first professor of the department was a graduate of St. Petersburg University, Professor Nikolai Alekseevich Merkulovich. The first head of the Department of Medical Biology was Professor P.M. Faktorovich at the end of 1930.
From 1943 to 1945, P.M.Faktorivich again served as the head.
From 1947 to 1974, Professor A.I. Shumeyka served as the head of the department.
From 1974 to 1977, Associate Professor M.M. Malikov served as the head of the department. From January 1977 to 2012, the head of the biology department was Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sodikov Vadim Murtazayevich.
As the head of the medical biology department of SamDTI, Sodikov V.M. In 1964, he defended his candidate's thesis on the topic "Episootology and epidemiology of echinococcosis of the Samarkand region". In 1969, he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic "Larvalnye teniidozi cheloveka v zhivotnih" in Moscow. Since 1970, he has been the head of the department of microbiology and physiology of the Samarkand State Cooperative Institute. Since 1977, he has been the head of the department of medical biology of the Samarkand State Medical Institute. A representative of the school named after Academician K.I. Skryabin - helminthologist, microbiologist. Author of more than 500 scientific works, including 7 monographs, 12 textbooks, 1 educational film, 3 patents.
More than 20 doctoral and candidate dissertations have been completed under the leadership of V.M. Sodiqov. In collaboration with V.M. Sodiqov, students and masters publish more than 100 scientific works annually. Between 1977 and 2015, the following worked at the Department of Medical Biology: Adilova Norchuchuk Bakayevna, Jonibekov Toshnazar Jonibekovich, Bakhranov Arslon Bakhranovovich, Malikov Mannon Malikovich, Yuldashev Sobir Yuldashevich, Jurayev Vokhid Juraevich, Tilavova Sayyora Sharofuddinovna.

Since 2012, Voxidova Adolat Mamatkulovna has been appointed Head of the Department of Medical Biology, Genetics and Parasitology of SamDTI. From 2013 to 2017, she was the Head of the Department of Microbiology, Virology, Immunology, Medical Biology and Genetics. On July 9, 2012, she defended her candidate's dissertation on the topic "Lung Echinococcosis, complicated by pecilomycosis" in the "Gelminthology" direction at the Specialized Council under the Samarkand Agricultural Institute. Total work experience is 35 years, scientific and pedagogical work experience at the Samarkand State Medical Institute is 27 years. Voxidova A.M. has published more than 200 scientific works, of which 150 are scientific articles, created 4 EXM programs. Participated in international symposia and conferences held in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astana, Istanbul, Penza, Warsaw, Newcastle, Ryazan.

From 2017 to 2019, the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics was headed by Makhmudova Khurshida Irgashevna, Candidate of Biological Sciences. From 1998 to 2001, she worked as an assistant at the Department of Normal Physiology of the Samarkand State Medical Institute. From 2001 to 2006, he was a biology teacher at the boarding school of the Samarkand State Medical Institute, from 2006 to 2017, he was a biology teacher at the academic lyceum No. 2 under the SamIT, from 2009 to 2017, he was the head of the Biology Department, from 2007 to 2012, he was a scientific researcher at the Department of Bioinorganic, Bioorganic, Biophysical-Colloid and Biochemistry of the SamIT, from 2012 to 2015, he was an assistant professor at the Department of Microbiology, Virology, Immunology, Medical Biology and Genetics, and from 2009 to 2017, he was the head of the Biology Department of the academic lyceum No. 2 under the SamIT. In 2012, she defended her candidate's dissertation on the topic "Comparative study of some physiological and biochemical indicators of milk and blood of goats of different genotypes" at the Institute of Biophysics and Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the specialty "Human and Animal Physiology". K.I. Makhmudova has published 70 scientific works, including about 50 articles and theses, 20 teaching and methodological manuals, 2 textbooks and 1 monograph.

From 2019 to 2020, the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics was headed by Associate Professor Mukhitdinov Shavkat Mukhamedzhanovich. After graduating from the Sh.M. Mukhitdinov Institute, he served in the Soviet Army. From 1973 to 1976, he studied at the postgraduate course. In June 1977, he defended his dissertation in biology on the specialty of parasitology “Problem of parasitocenosis in larval tenioids of Karakul oats and its influence on some biochemical parameters of the host” at the Institute of Zoology and Parasitology of the Samarkand State Medical University. From 1977 to the present, he has been working at Samarkand State Medical University. First, he was an assistant, then a senior lecturer of the department, and since 2002, he has been an associate professor of the department. To date, more than 100 scientific articles and 2 patents have been published. Author of 2 textbooks, 1 monograph. In 2023, he was awarded the "Certificate of Honor" from the Samarkand regional administration.

From 2020 to 2022, the Department of Medical Biology and Genetics was headed by Aliyev Dilmurod Davronovich. Aliyev D. D. is a graduate of biological sciences, and in 2011 he completed and defended his candidate's dissertation on the topic "Variability of nucleic acids and potassium levels in the blood of Karakul sheep in connection with their physiological functions" at the Institute of Physiology and Biophysics under the Academy of Sciences. Currently, he completed and successfully defended his doctoral thesis (DSc) on the topic "Physiological aspects of increasing the productivity of Surkhandarya Sur Karakul sheep" in 2022. 2 textbooks and 1 recommendation letter, as well as more than 60 scientific articles have been published

From 2022 to the present, the department has been headed by Abdumuminova Rano Narbuvayevna. Abdumuminova R.N. In 2019, she successfully defended her PhD dissertation on the topic “The influence of siderates on the quality of peach (Persica vulgaris) in the foothills of the Zarafshan oasis”, and is the author of more than 50 scientific articles, 10 methodological guides and recommendations, as well as 4 monographs, 3 textbooks and 3 textbooks. In 2025, she carried out academic mobility at the First St. Petersburg Medical University named after I. Pavlov. She also completed a 144-hour scientific internship on the topic of genotoxicity of natural compounds and immunoenzyme methods. R.N. Abdumuminova, using new pedagogical technologies, has been delivering lectures to first-year students of the Medical, Pediatric, Stomatological, Preventive Medicine, Higher Nursing, and Fundamental specialties based on modern innovative technologies, according to the credit-module teaching system introduced at the institute. Currently, she is conducting scientific research on her doctoral dissertation on the topic “Extraction of secondary metabolites from lichens that are part of immunomodulators and their recommendations in the treatment of cancer diseases”. From 2022 to the present, R.N. Abdumuminova has been the head of the department. During this period, more than 30 scientific works have been published, more than 10 of which have been published in foreign journals.
