The Specialized Scientific and Practical Center of Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation of SamSMU performed another complex surgical operation

On July 12 this year the staff of the Specialized Scientific and Practical Center of Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation of SamSMU performed a complex technological operation in the central clinic of Kattakurgan and held a master class for the clinic staff.

Allocranioplasty surgery using 3D-implant was successfully performed on a patient who had a large bone defect of the left frontal region of the head as a result of a car accident. This operation was performed in the city of Kattakurgan, which is the patient's permanent place of residence, in accordance with the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 188 dated April 1, 2022 on performing complex technological operations in remote areas.

The patient's brain was examined by MSCT, a 3D model of the skull was created and a 3D implant corresponding to the bone defect was manufactured. It should be noted that implants based on this innovative technology are currently manufactured directly at the University's research and practice center. The advantage of this implant is that the shape of the implant coincides with the shape of the skull defect and provides symmetry relative to the opposite side. The operation was performed by the director of the Specialized Scientific and Practical Center of Neurosurgery and Neurorehabilitation of SamSMU, Candidate of Medical Sciences, M.A.Aliev and neurosurgeons of the Center A.M.Zhuraev, K.J.Saidov, clinical resident of the Center O.T.Safarov. The operation was successful and the patient had no neurological deficit afterwards. At present, the general condition of the patient is satisfactory.

Introduction of such a complex technology in remote areas brings specialized medicine closer to the citizens on the ground. Neurosurgeons of the center plan to continue performing these and other types of complex technological operations in remote areas.
